So here I am...a brand new blogger in a blogging world. I've decided to journal my orthognathic surgery journey mainly because I am so obsessed with it and yet others around me simply aren't interested! How can it be that only I am interested in my teeth and my retrognathic mandible?? This way I can obsess to myself and those who are of similar minds can obsess with me ;-)
I know that I'm in very good company as there are other excellent orthognathic blog sites out there. I've been reading them and feel as if I almost know the authors of them like friends. It is a strange small world this jaw surgery one.
Anyway, as someone with an openbite, overbite, overjet, cant and condylar hyperplasia, I have to say that at the age of 36 I am simply burning to get on with it and get the other side of surgery. I had my passport photo taken today as I am due to go on a trip to India in May. You can no longer show your teeth in them, so I was forced between slightly smiling with my teeth out of sight (which made one eye look small and the other huge) and not smiling at all - which made my mouth look extremely peculiar and sombre. Even the photographer commented and wondered if I normally had these problems with my portrait being taken.
I might add at this stage that I have already had an operation to expand my palate (SARPE) and have been in braces for the last seven months. The SARPE was a great success, but the braces have been moving my teeth into a completely different position ready for surgery. My orthodontist warned me that it would change my profile for the worse ahead of the op...but now I can barely shut my lips together I am so goofy. When I have worked out how, I will post a few photos for posterity. Roll on July!!
